Playstation 2 has become one of the fastest selling gaming consoles in history. With over 100 million units shipped by November 2005, this console beat the previous record holder which is PlayStation. On its release, it already set the mark of being the fastest selling console by breaking the record held previously by the Sega Dreamcast. This console still outsells its current main competition, Xbox, and Gamecube as of the middle of the year. It's
competitor Xbox 360, however, scored a new record for fastest selling system worldwide when it was launched on November 22, 2005.
